Set 2: 14
Set 3: 10
Set 4: 10
Set 5: 15
Got started late this week. Abs aren’t really sore at all anymore, so I’m thinking that was the Burpees. I should really institute some sort ab workout, too — but I think I’m going to add cardio first. I just want to get into a routine with the pushups before going crazy.
03/28/2009: Day 6
Set 1: 11
Set 2: 15
Set 3: 9
Set 4: 9
Set 5: 13
First week done! All in all, not too bad so far. It only takes a few minutes per workout, and my recovery time seems to be improving a little. I’m going to start throwing in the cardio next week, hopefully. Week 2 has an exhaustion test at the end, so we’ll get an idea of my overall progress so far… we shall see how that goes.
03/25/2009: Day 3
Set 1: 10
Set 2: 12
Set 3: 8
Set 4: 8
Set 5: 12
Some initial impressions:
- the most noticeable after-effect so far has been ab soreness; much more pronounced than pecs, etc
- recovery time is the biggest snag so far; the first set is always easy… as soon as I start the second set, I can tell the lactic acid level hasn’t gone down at all
The ab strain might come from an experiment I did with burpees the other day. I don’t remember that effect from pushups from back when I could actually do any sizeable number of them. We’ll see how that goes.
03/23/2009: Day 1
Did the initial test… results: 26 consecutive pushups.
2 hours later:
Set 1: 10
Set 2: 12
Set 3: 7
Set 4: 7
Set 5: 9
03/22/2009: Day 0
Weight: 210 lbs
The 100 pushup challenge starts tomorrow! Hopefully within 7 weeks, I’ll be able to do 100 consecutive (good form) pushups… and the weight I carry around will be somewhat lower. I’ll be combining the pushup training with some cardio too (although this won’t be following a specific plan, I’ll post the details of that here, too).
Check back to follow my progress!
